How can I get the most out of my Gigabit Internet?

A direct connection via Ethernet cable is the very best way to experience the full speed of your device and your Internet connection. Sometimes the weak link to receiving the fastest Internet speed is the device being used. If your laptop, tablet or smartphone is more than a few years old, chances are it will not support gigabit Internet speeds. In order to achieve the maximum speeds offered by BTC Broadband, you’ll want to determine the speed capability of each of your devices.

This includes your router(s). Poor quality or older Wi-Fi routers can also negatively affect your Internet experience. When you have fiber (especially gigabit) Internet we strongly encourage you to use only BTC equipment and not your own router(s).

It’s like trying to use a drinking straw to provide water to your house. The throughput would be extremely slow. Device age, along with the number of routers you’re using, and the number of devices connected to those routers, can also negatively affect your Wi-Fi.
