How is BTC Broadband mitigating Robo, Spam and Fraudulent calls?

With spam and robocalls on the rise, consumers no longer trust incoming voice calls received, leaving the important ones unanswered. To help combat fraud and spoofing, Congress passed the TRACED (Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence) Act in 2019, mandating service providers to implement STIR/SHAKEN call authentication and robocall mitigation technology at no cost to consumers.

What is STIR/SHAKEN?

STIR/SHAKEN stands for Secure Telephone Identity Revisited/Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using tokens. It is a technology framework designed to reduce Caller ID spoofing. It does not block unwanted calls; instead, it allows us, as your service provider, to authenticate inbound and outbound calling across BTC Broadband's VoIP network to combat illegal Caller ID spoofing and decrease fraudulent robocalls. As a result, you can expect a change to the Caller ID displays with alerts of potential fraud, spam, or robocalls.

If the incoming call does not meet the STIR/SHAKEN protocols, the words "Fraudulent Call" or "SPAM CALL" will appear on the caller ID. In some cases, "Spam?" or "Robo?" may appear before the caller's name on the caller ID screen. This call authentication and robocall mitigation technology is at no cost to you!
